The persona of the poem talks about the importance of reading books to gain knowledge and solve rising issues in the society. He uses humor, as usual, making the analysis of his poem interesting. On the other hand, E.E. Cummings writes poems related to visual art, coming out smoothly in the form of poetry. A reader can extract words like “a leaf falls” or even “loneliness.” The visual order of words makes Cummings’ poems unique. When the audience watches a leaf falling in a movie, what comes to their minds is solitude. The “I (a” poem tells more about the relationship between loneliness and the falling leaf (Hongyang 8). The first poem “A Study of Reading Habits” shows the reader that Larkin worked in the library all his life but has never believed that books can be crap as the conclusion of the poem discloses. The opening line introduces the importance of books in finding solutions to life challenges. “Cured most things short of school” (2) The line above shows that the author did not enjoy school life. The first stanza places the persona to be part of the story. When the persona was ten years old, he read an interesting fiction story. The line “inch-thick specs” and “ruining his eyes” are used to describe the persona’s appearance. All the books that the persona has read give him some thrill “The women I clubbed with sex!” (11) Cummings’ “I (a” poem is about “loneliness and” “oneliness.” “Oneliness” describes wholeness when one is lonely.
